This program is free software. Anyone - any person, any company, or any business - can use this program for free. No fees or payment is required. See "Freeware Information" below. Bitwise Encryptor Decryptor provides the following functionality: * Character Frequency Analysis. * Simple Bitwise Encryption of Data. * Single Step and Brute Force Decryption of Simple Bitwise Encrypted Data. * Analysis of Encrypted Data. See "Using this Program" below for a walk through of each of these uses. Bitwise Encryptor Decryptor can encrypt / decrypt data one attempt at a time, or cycle through all possible combinations, stopping at possible solutions along the way. Bitwise Encryptor Decryptor also displays a chart and table of ASCII character frequencies in the source and destination data as well as the percentages of alphanumeric characters (a-z,A-Z,0-9) and spaces in the data, which should be useful for anyone wanting to do statistical analysis of data. All of the functionality / buttons should be pretty explanatory. All of the buttons have tool tips / pop-up help, so just hover the mouse pointer over a button to see further information / help about the button's functionality. To Encrypt: click the "Load" button, select a text file, select some operations and click the "Encrypt / Decrypt" button. Change the operations and click the "Encrypt / Decrypt" button again if you want. To Decrypt: click the "Load" button, select an encrypted text file, and then click the "Start / Resume" in the Brute Force section. 5 bitwise operators are supported so far: * NOT: flip / invert the bits. NOT 01101 = 10010 * SHR / SHL: shift right and left without carry. SHR 01101 = 00110 (the 1 bit on the right was lost !) * ROR / ROL: shift right and left with carry. ROR 01101 = 10110 (the 1 bit on the right was wrapped around to the left - NO data was lost !) I've also included a special file "Project4b_encrypted.txt" which contains a special message for those who want to run this program's Brute Force decryption. Note: * Bitwise Encryption is NOT serious encryption in any way, shape, or form. It is a very simple and very easily crackable encryption that is only really used when people are first learning about encryption or bitwise operators. Bitwise Encryptor Decryptor is provided to help people do that. :) Developed using 32-bit Delphi. Using this Program : -------------------- To use this program, unzip the contents of the ZIP file to a directory - such as c:\GIF_Image_Details\ - and run the executable file GIF_Image_Details.EXE. Bitwise Encryptor Decryptor enables you to: * Use #1: Character Frequency Analysis. Load (from file), Paste (from Windows Clipboard), or simply type / enter text into the Source Data area. The Source Data character frequency graph and table will automatically update when you do this. * Use #2: Simple Bitwise Encryption of Data. Load, Paste, or enter text as above. Then select a range of Bitwise Operations and then click the "Encrypt / Decrypt" button to apply the operations to the Source Data and store the results in the Destination Data area. The Destination Data character frequency graph and table will be automatically updated. You can then apply other operations, or Save (to file) the Source Or Destination data, or Copy the Source or Destination data to Windows Clipboard using the buttons provided. * Use #3: Single Step and Brute Force Decryption of Simple Bitwise Encrypted Data. Load bitwise encrypted data (from file), or Paste it (from Windows Clipboard) into the Source Data area. The Source Data character frequency graph and table will automatically update when you do this. Then select a range of Bitwise Operations and then click the "Encrypt / Decrypt" button to apply the operations to the Source Data and store the results in the Destination Data area. The Destination Data character frequency graph and table will be automatically updated. You can then apply other operations, or Save (to file) the Source Or Destination data, or Copy the Source or Destination data to Windows Clipboard using the buttons provided. You can also use the "Start / Resume" button in the "Brute Force" section to step through and apply all combinations of operations to the Source Data and then check the resulting Destination data's percentages of alphanumerics and spaces to see if the data appears to have been decrypted. You can adjust the threshold values for the percentages of alphanumerics and spaces. When a "possible solution" is found, the program stops. If you want to proceed checking further operations, click the "Start / Resume" button. * Use #4: Analysis of Encrypted Data. The "Analysis" button next to the Source data provides a simple report on the "Source Data: most frequently occuring characters (case sensitive)" and a "Comparison: most frequently occuring letters in common English text". This enables you to see at a glance how simple bitise encrypted data may have been encrypted (what operations were used). For example, consider this Analysis report and compare the binary values of the two lines I have marked with asterisks (****) below: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Source Data: most frequently occuring characters (case sensitive) ASC Char Binary Count --- ---- -------- ------ 191 ¿ 10111111 51 **** 053 5 00110101 36 023 ETB 00010111 20 045 - 00101101 20 Comparison: most frequently occuring letters in common English text ASC Char Binary --- ---- -------- 032 SPC 00100000 **** 069 E 01000101 101 e 01100101 084 T 01010100 116 t 01110100 065 A 01000001 097 a 01100001 ------------------------------------------------------------------ Taking the binary values from the 2 lines I have marked with asterisks (****) above, you can see that they are *VERY* closely related: 10111111 00100000 One is the inverse (NOT) of the other, with the bits shifted one position to the right. This gives us a very good idea of the bitwise operators used: NOT and ROR, or NOT and SHR works in this case as well. NOTE: here we got lucky - the encrypted data was plain English text, and the "unencrypted" version of encrypted data had spacesm followed by "e" as the most common letter (matching the most frequently occuring letters in common English text). Not all bitwise encrypted data will be so easy to "crack", because people may leave out spaces, or delete the letter "e" before encryption. In such cases, use the "Brute Force" options above.
